How to Pick Canva Dimensions for Social Media

How to pick Canva dimensions for social media:

Canva has easy pre-made dimensions to use for any social media post under the “create a design” button in the top left corner.

Instagram

Instagram is the most straightforward. You have to pick the exact dimensions for either the story or a square post.

Instagram Story:

Instagram Square Post:

Facebook

Facebook will post the full photo that you attach, no matter what the dimensions.

There is a Canva recommended size, which is a good option. However, if you have graphics you want to re-use from a different social media platform, Facebook is the easiest platform to do this on because the dimensions matter the least.

Twitter

You can post an image of any size to Twitter. However, if you are only posting one picture in your tweet, it will cut it off the preview to a landscape rectangle:

For example, this was a square image that expands to the full square when clicked on, but when you are just scrolling through Twitter it cuts it off to this size.

So, you can select this option in Canva to create a graphic that perfectly fits that size:

However, if you want to do one of those “open for a surprise” tweets where you have a cute puppy or something in the corner of the photo that is cut off by the Twitter preview, square options are also great!

Additionally, if you want to post multiple photos in a single tweet like so, you are better off picking a portrait option in Canva.

My favourite is “poster”:
